Welcome to the OpenWGT project

What is OpenWGT?

OpenWGT is a linux distribution for the Netgear WGT634U Wireless Media Router. It is designed to be compatible to the OpenWRT distribution, known from the community of the Linksys WRT54G(S) wireless router.

Features

OpenWGT boots much faster than Netgear's firmware (25s vs. 100s)
full shell access to your router with telnet or ssh
OpenWGT can boot with root filesystem from USB storage (e.g. for test or recovery reasons)
ipkg package management
compatibility to OpenWRT
optional watchdog for critical operations
mechanism to restore original firmware
possibility to boot your router from network (with TFTP/NFS)

Most wanted features under construction

Translation from OpenWRT style NVRAM based VLAN configuration to vconfig calls (Netgear style)
Kernel patches to get access to the reset button (to implement FAILSAVE mode) and LED modes (yellow/green)
Utility to import configuration from the Netgear firmware (config.lrp)
madwifi drivers for some scenarios (AP mode, Client mode, Ad-hoc mode) and kernels (2.4 and 2.6)
Webfrontend for configuration

Getting Started

To install OpenWGT on your WGT634U download the latest version of firmware image. Then follow the installation instructions.
